We’ve Seen Santa is my first (and only) published book. It is a Children’s Christmas story. It is told in rhyme. We’ve Seen Santa is the story of two siblings who sneak out of bed on Christmas Eve hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa. It follows their adventure and what they find.
Tell us something about yourself.
I have always had a love for writing. Even as a child I wanted to write books for the world to enjoy. I am so excited to finally have realized that dream. One day, my husband teasingly said that I should put the stories I told our daughter into books, and so I began writing them down. Lucky for me, he has a love for art and was able to illustrate for me, turning my venture into a family project.
What inspired you to write this book?
We’ve Seen Santa originally started as a bedtime story for my daughter when she was 2-years-old
How did you choose the title?
The title felt like it fit the story. I believe it started off teasing our daughter. “We’ve seen Santa, have you?” and it just felt right so it became the title for the story.
How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?
I just always knew I found pure enjoyment in any form of writing. As a young child in school, we did a project where we wrote, illustrated and “published” our own board books. These had a cardboard cover that we wrapped in wallpaper. I think it was maybe first grade. I knew then that someday I wanted to make a “real” book.
Did you learn anything from writing and publishing this book? What?
I learned that it takes a lot of patience to go from written to published. There is a lot of slow time periods where you want to pull your hair out and scream, but then you move on to the next step and the excitement builds to an even higher level.
What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors?
I love to read. I read everything I can get my hands on. As for favorite authors, I don’t really choose favorites. I love books so much I just devour them.
Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?
The next book we will be publishing is about the changing seasons. It is tentatively titled When Seasons Change. It is about the enjoyable parts of every season and the love we can have for all the activities and fun things we do during each season.
What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?
Have faith in yourself and NEVER give up on your dreams.
Who is the perfect reader for your book?
We’ve Seen Santa is a perfect bedtime story for little ones. It is also a fairly easy read for children just learning how to read to themselves. I tried to also make sure that parents and older siblings would find delight in reading it to the little ones.
