My newest book is Do You Love Jehovah? God Almighty’s Infinite Love & Wisdom to Propel You to Greatness. This three-time award-winning inspirational book on Christianity helps you discover your purpose and gently direct your way to align with the most sacred will: that of your Life-Giver, Jehovah.
Besides answering life’s colossal questions, “Do You Love Jehovah?” clears up some of the most commonly misunderstood teachings about the Bible, such as:
- Who is God? Who is Jesus Christ? How about the Holy Spirit?
- What happens after we die? Do we have an immortal soul?
- Since Jesus died for us, does that mean we will automatically enter the Kingdom of God?
- Are we predestined?
- Why does God allow suffering and wickedness?
- What will happen to the wicked? Will they burn for eternity in hell?
“Do You Love Jehovah?” has received many rave reviews, including:
“…this book deserves to sit on the shelf next to the Bible…Shirley has all of the properties, emotions, logic and spiritual being that (Jehovah) was hoping to instill in each one of us. Shirley may be in a wheelchair, but has walked the universe. She may be blind but see’s the true color and beauty in the world…” -Jan Hayner, Professional Organizer, Motivational Speaker and Personal Coach
“(Shirley) could preach a sermon with the best of the 18th century preachers.” -Laura Evans, United Methodist Church Pastor’s Wife, Certified Instructor
“In poetic prose Shirley describes the nature of God and the character of Christ with clarity, emotion, and passion. She boldly addresses traditional church doctrine giving her own personal insight and interpretation logically, using a common sense analysis. In a concise, yet complete, Bible summary, Cheng covers important events and a review of the important themes of the entire Bible from Genesis through Revelation.” -Dr. Richard R. Blake, Doctor of Ministries, Former Instructor at Bay Cities Bible College (Reader Views Reviewer)
“Do You Love Jehovah? is well worth considering for Christian readers.” -Midwest Book Review
Tell us something about yourself.
I’m a 27-year-old blind and physically disabled award-winning author (with twenty-three book awards, including nine Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom Awards), motivational speaker, self-empowerment expert, poet, author of nine books, contributor to twenty-two, editor of one, and a parental rights advocate.
The best way to describe me is “a passionate lover of life.” Despite my multiple physical disabilities since infancy and blindness since age seventeen, I’m loving the life I live. Life is the most precious present Jehovah God has given to each and every one of us. I cherish every minute of my existence, and I’m so honored to be alive and so grateful to God for giving me my life.
What motivated you to write this book?
Life without love holds no meaning. The greatest love in life is Jehovah God Almighty, as He is the very representation of love (I John 4.8). Thus, to live a meaningful life, a sacred relationship with the God of love is essential. While food and water sustain us physically, only love from God can sustain us fully–spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically, as He is the very Giver of life. This is why I wrote “Do You Love Jehovah?”–to help you establish a lasting, intimate relationship with your Heavenly Father, so you can experience the true joy that comes only with loving, knowing, and serving Jehovah.
Did you learn anything from writing this book? What?
As I wrote this book, I was able to review what I already knew about the Bible and expand on my knowledge (I’ve read eight different versions of the Holy Scriptures so far). In my experience, teaching someone a certain subject I have just learned actually helps my own learning process, assisting me to better understand and remember. In addition, as I researched a few specific topics, I found that there are many misconceptions people have regarding what the Bible actually teaches, so I was able to address some of the major misunderstandings in my book.
When did your passion for writing begin?
My passion for writing began even before I knew how to write. Due to years of hospitalization between America and China, I didn’t start schooling until age eleven. Prior to an education, I used to scribble down made-up words. How I longed to write down what my young heart yearned to share! Back then, I only knew the alphabets and few simple English; but because of my thirst for knowledge, I devoured everything that was taught and mostly self-taught myself how to read. So after about 180 days of attendance in elementary school, I achieved a sixth-grade reading level. How elated I was! I filled up two notebooks with poetry.
What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing?
Write straight from your heart! If you want your voice to speak through your writing, you need to be yourself as you write. Be natural, be genuine, and be free.
Who is your biggest motivator? Who inspires you the most?
First and foremost, it is Jehovah God who grants me the power and strength to move forward. I’m brave as I know He’s always there, guiding me, supporting me, and loving me. I’m a sheep in His green pasture, and He’s my Savior, my Shepherd, and I will never be in want as long as I know Him. And second, it is the most special person and treasure (besides my own life) He has given me: my dear mother, Juliet Cheng, who is the cornerstone and light of my life, the foundation of my happiness, strength, and success, besides my Heavenly Father.
What’s your personal mantra?
Dance with your heart! When you dance with your heart, you are dancing using your heart, you are dancing together with your heart, and in turn, you become a dancing heart to lead others in your dance steps so they, too, can become dancing hearts.
Although I’m blind, I can see far and wide; even though I’m disabled, I can climb high mountains. Let the ropes of hope in Jehovah God haul you high!
What’s your ultimate secret to success?
My ultimate secret to my successes is my deep faith in, my gratitude toward, my hope in, and my love for Jehovah God Almighty.
What is your future ambition?
After a successful eye surgery, I hope to earn multiple science doctorates from Harvard University, and become a professional visual-art artist.
But above all else, I hope to bring the Word of God to as many people as I possibly can. I urge people to recognize the importance and blessing of life, of every minute, of every second…but you couldn’t have experienced all life’s splendor without Jehovah granting you this privilege in the first place!
What do you want to be most remembered for?
When people think of me, I hope they would think, “She was a living proof what God-gifted powers can do for you in your life.” God can always turn a situation from impossible to possible. I hope people can learn from my story that no one and nothing can stop you if you do not let them–only you can stop yourself. People can do whatever they can to you physically, but no one can touch your spirit as long as your faith is rooted deeply in God.
