My debut novel is titled Unforgiven. It is about a young girl who makes a bad decision and it brings a diverse set of characters into a head-on collision course with fate and even more horrifically the devastation comes full-circle and threatens to destroy the lives of her precious children.
Tell us something about yourself.
I was born in New York City, however raised in Jacksonville, Florida. I attended the University of North Florida where I received my Communications Degree. I have two daughters; my eldest who is a senior at Florida State University is also a writer whose work was published in the University’s annual “Kudzu Review” publication. My youngest although in grade school also excels in writing…of that I am extremely proud.
What inspired you to write this book?
One day the story just fell into place in my mind and the title came as a result. Although it has a moral to the story, there was no life-altering situation in my life that I lend this story to. Just an over-active, creative mind. How did you choose the title?
Forgiveness is the main theme of this writing; the devastation comes about because there is a lack thereof. What obstacles did you encounter in getting this book published? How did you overcome them? There was slight difficulty with finding a suitable publisher. However, with persistence and processes of elimination, I found who I think suits my needs.
How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?
I’ve known that I wanted to be a writer since I was twelve years old. One day I cleared my mind and heart with all of the negative things surrounding me and began to write my first novel.
Do you have any writing rituals?
Definitely! I go to Starbucks and stare out of the window until I find my zone…it blocks out all of the noise and distractions surrounding me. (It has to be a bright and sunny day..I am not inspired on grey, rainy days) I also love to work in the public library surrounded by quiet and other creative works.
How do you come up with the names for your characters?
That only requires a little thought. I wish my characters to be unique with absolutely no resemblance to anyone I know.
Did you learn anything from writing and publishing this book? What?
I learned that perseverance pays off. It brings me all the more closer to making my mantra all the more true: PASSION-VISION-CREATIVITY-PERSISTENCE-SUCCESS!!!!!
If you were doing it all over again, what would you do differently?
Absolutely nothing! It has been a great learning experience, Now, there might be some things I do slightly differently the second time around to make things easier, but nothing extensive.
What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors? Why?
I absolutely love suspense thrillers and mystery. I grew up on Nancy Drew!!! I also like Stephen King, Robert Grisham, Danielle Steel, Dean Koontz, Nicholas Sparks-they are prolific in their writings!!!
Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?
Yes!!! I have completed my second novel titled “Innate Sacrifices,” about two sisters, one who harbors a dark secret and a life-altering decision that proves the bonds of sisterly love.
What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?
Be patient! Be true to yourself and let your mind guide you to success. It is ok that you reach road blocks..or as we call it in the writing world…”Writer’s Block,” just stay focused, be persistent and you can fulfill your dreams!
Who is the perfect reader for your book? (Please do not say “everyone.” ;o) )
Avid readers who like suspense, mystery and drama. I am an author who allows them to use their own imagination and read between the lines without spelling everything out for them.
