Tale Of The Rock Pieces, my first book that has been published recently. My second: The Opposite Of Magic is almost written. Tale Of The Rock Pieces contains all my dreams when I was a kid. Though it’s actually a book for children, I guess any adult with enough imagination and kind enough soul would find it interesting too… As far as I know, the good books for children are of the kind that adults could read too? Hope mine is one of these books.
Reading my book anyone could find out the real meaning of the words “ancient wizard”, Magic, nobleness, “healthy way of life”, or avidity, cruelty, “enslaving of innocent creatures and humans”, etc… The many adventures of the noblest human race – the Mountaineers, and their evil enemies – the Brown faces (the most horrible human race ever existed), include also a lot of events with incredible creatures like weightless korks; rock pieces; cave bears; lighting, water balls; giant and noble birds; jolly and compassionate mermaids; one-eyed people; evil Fiery men; fierce fish-keepers; etc. But I shouldn’t forget it is also a story about the everlasting love, the love that defeats the most horrible armies, changes worlds, or makes nations happy as never before!
Tell us something about yourself.
I’m Bulgarian, live in Sofia – the capital of sunny Bulgaria, I have a master’s degree in biology that helps me a lot for writing of some of my books. I think that there’s nothing else like writing (and reading) of books, it includes every other activity one could think of or imagine! But it’s not easy at all! Sometimes it’s harder than digging channels with a spade… There are a lot of other books in my head that impatiently wait to be written: The Opposite Of Magic (almost ready), Kids’ Funny Business, The Lord Of The Christ, Lake Mystery, Parasites, The Origin Of Gods, Detective’s Story, A Writer’s Incredible Adventures, Incredible future, etc.
I also love watching movies (that are not only special effects but contain some good thoughts too), swimming, taking care of my body and soul, photography.
What inspired you to write this book?
I saw all the adventures from some of my books in my head, some of them as a kid, and all that was so incredible, amazing and scary at the same time, that I felt it must be written!!!
How did you publish this book? Why did you decide on that publisher?
Well, StrategicPublishingGroup seemed a really good publisher that knew very well what had to be done to publish and sell well any book. According to the contract I had to pay some money for the publication of my e-book but then my royalties would be 50%, not 10,15, or 20 as the other publishers offer.
How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?
All the incredible stories in my head whispered all the time that they want to be written… That was something that couldn’t be ignored for too long time. When in a quiet evening (about 15 years ago), I saw a long trail of desperate Mountaineers, trying to defeat fierce hordes of Fiery people and horrible cave bears, and what could be found in the Loch Ness monster’s head, I already knew I’ll be a writer and nothing else 😉 !
What do you believe is the hardest part of writing?
There are a lot of hard things, but probably the hardest is to become one of your heroes, so that you could live all the adventures with him/her to write them in the best possible way… After that the writer will never be the same, writing can change everything in anyone’s life!
How do you do research for your books?
It depends on the books, for the first one I had to find a lot of facts about animals’ life, for some of the rest I read The Bible, Koran and everything similar that’s connected to antiquity, or anything about space, stars, unusual cosmic events… I use a lot of searching the web, reading appropriate books.
Did you learn anything from writing this book? What?
A lot of things! I began to take a really good care of my body (and soul), realized what’s the true meaning of the word friendship and family, or the great power of the real, true love!
What are you reading now?
The Engines Of God, by Jack McDevit, a story about the future of the archaeology. Also about human stupidity.
What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors? Why?
I like fantasy, sci-fy, well-written thrillers, historical novels. My favorite authors: J. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, Terry Pratchett, Ursula LeGuin, C. Lewis, Roger Zelazni, some Bulgarian authors like Anton Donchev, Strashimir Krinchev, etc. All of them has written amazing books, books that could make one laugh, think about important things as faith, the difference between good and evil, the meaning of human’s life, they all include amazing thoughts and stories.
Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?
Yes, The Opposite Of Magic, it continues the story of the first one, though all the events in it are far away in the future. A story about wizards and all the amazing things a wizard could do with the Magic, a story about the best hidden secret in the antiquity, a story about many incredible adventures like sailing and surviving with the most dangerous sea creatures, about many scientific facts, and many thoughts that could be used in any period of humans’ history.
What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?
Never quit writing! It’s a really hard job, but it’s the most interesting and breath-taking activity one could have!!! Even though it’s really hard to find a publisher, that shouldn’t discourage any author! Don’t forget: the Universe likes action! And never give your manuscript for editing to a literary agent who wants to charge you about that (like Jillanne Kimble for example), they are cheaters! Literary agents have to find a publisher, not take money from you for anything else!
What are you doing to promote your latest book?
I use many social media sites like facebook, myspace, shelfari, sodahead, mahalo.com, youtube, I post at many sites that contain information about things from my books (wizards, mermaids, healthy life, etc.), I have a blog too, use helpareporter – HARO. etc.
