Wendy Healy-Hindmarch – Taeh Goes to the Vet

What is your most recent book? Tell us a bit about it.

Taeh goes to the Vet is my most recent book.

In a humorous look we see through the eyes of Taeh the Dalmatian (my real dog) as she tries to conquer her fears. Come along on this adventure and see what awaits her. See as she tries to outwit her pets (humans) as they have a battle of wills to see who will triumph. Once read you will be hooked on Taeh’s adventures and want to read more in the Taeh the Dalmatian series.

Tell us something about yourself.

I was originally born in England but moved to Australia when I was a baby and now I live in South Australia with my husband, two daughters, four dogs and a bird. I have a diploma in early childhood development and am currently working on my B.A in History and Politics. I have many more adventures of Taeh’s written in the Taeh the Dalmatian series and am currently working on several other ideas for children and teenagers.I have had a short story for young adults published in a widely read magazine.

I have been writing since 2000 prior to that I was a nurse and worked in child care!

What inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired to write this book because I saw how much my kids loved to read and wanted to help re-ignite the same passion in other children, plus I saw some of the books that had/are written and thought that the children were being sold short, not only with imagination but also with clean humor.

Also my dog is a popular breed. Not to mention one of the most hilarious breeds and I wanted to share her antics with the world!

How did you choose the title?

I named it after my Dalmatian and what happened when we took her to the vet.

What obstacles did you encounter in getting this book published? How did you overcome them?

Finding a publisher to print my book(s) in hard copy is impossible and after 10 years of trying to get published hard copy I decided to go to E-books, I still hope that a publisher will see my book(s) and want to publish hard copies.

How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?

Writing was something that I really enjoyed and is something that gives me a happy fulfillment when I write. I got started writing when I made up little stories for my children and their friends which they enjoyed so I decided to put it on paper.

Do you have any writing rituals?

I have to use pen and paper to write out my ideas and rough copies before I type them up.

How do you come up with the names for your characters?

I brain storm for names, get a lot of input from my family and use names that have some meaning to me.

If you were doing it all over again, what would you do differently?

I wouldn’t do anything differently.

What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors? Why?

I like historical mysteries, normal mysteries, sci fi, fiction, non fiction and some horror.

My favorite authors are Ellis Peters, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Elizabeth Peters, Terry Pratchet, Agatha Christie, Benjamin Woolley, David Eddings, Candace Robb plus many many more

Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?

I have already completed another book in the Taeh series, I have also finished one about another of our dogs.

Currently I am working on my next book which is aimed at young adults I can tell you it’s a ghost story involving a haunted mansion, an old will, friendship and all surrounded by mystery. (This is in the editing stage)

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

Don’t take no for an answer, keep sending your work out and have faith not only in your work but yourself as well.

Get yourself a really good editor that is neutral who doesn’t have anything invested in your work because at the end of the day, you need and want honest criticism about your work.

Who is the perfect reader for your book?

For the Taeh series it is aimed at children aimed between 2-8 although parents will enjoy it as well.

My other novels are aimed at 11-17 year olds.

Where can readers learn more about you and your book?

They can also purchase my book at Amazon Kindle and various other E-book sites.
