Tell us something about yourself.
I’m a mother, wife, Founder of a Health & Beauty public company, creator/ host of an Internet Radio Talk Show on women’s issues, columnist and author of 3 previous non-fiction books.
I’m an Army brat born in Texas and raised by a strict military father. However this military upbringing also allowed me to live and visit countries all over the world. I’ve lived in Los Angeles for over twenty years meeting some of the most famous and infamous people on Earth. I have a second home in a small village in the North Georgia mountains where I’m taking care of my Mom who has late stage Alzheimer’s.
What inspired you to write this book?
My husband, who spent 30 years on Wall Street, informed me in 2006 that our Country was headed for a financial crash of biblical proportions. I decided to start writing a fictional story about a married couple who is financially secure, but because of mysterious events eventually loses all their money. All they have left is their deep love and hope.
Readers of my novel will ‘hopefully’ feel better about their own circumstances and continue to keep trying to improve their lives.
How did you choose the title?
The title represents the first, 12th and last chapter.
What obstacles did you encounter in getting this book published? How did you overcome them?
My previous publisher (General Publishing Group of Santa Monica) unfortunately went out of business. Because of a possible movie deal with my book, we wanted to retain as many properties of the novel as we could. We negotiated with Publish America and retained the rights that we were most interested in keeping.
How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?
I wrote my first book “The Official Celebrity Registry” in 1993 because so many personal friends wanted to know specific facts about many of the famous people I had met while living in LA. It became a instant best seller of over 50,000 copies on the first run.
Do you have any writing rituals?
I put together a detailed outline first of the storyline. Then I create the first and last chapter of the book featuring the main characters. Then I fill in the middle with additional characters and plot development. I like to write either on the Beach or in the Mountains where everything is clear and clean.
How do you come up with the names for your characters?
People that I met over the years.
Did you learn anything from writing and publishing this book? What?
I’ve learned that the publishing industry is going through enormous changes similar to the music industry over 10 years ago. It’s a very exciting time to be a publisher if you keep an open mind and embrace the new technologies. Its also great to be an author and create ‘original’ content which can be sold in various platforms. “Content is King.”
If you were doing it all over again, what would you do differently?
Nothing but ask me that question in a year.
What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors? Why?
Mysteries, Romance, Travel . Dan Brown, Sidney Sheldon, F.Scott Fitzgerald Very simply they all know how to write great characters, storyline and plot.
Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?
Yes. I’m writing a sequel to my alternative-health book, “The Beverly Hills Longevity Code” which was published in 2006.
What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?
Write something that you have passion for. Don’t worry about what others tell you in the beginning of your career. Write something you would love to read and the money will take care of itself.
Who is the perfect reader for your book?
Couples who have experienced 2nd marriages. Individuals who are facing financial difficulties. People who believe in Karma, Yin and Yang and Fate.
