Joseph Colacova – Author Interview

What is your most recent book? Tell us a bit about it.

My recent book is titled, Make Something Happen — What to Do Next. The book profiles five “everyday Americans” whose lives were recently turned upside-down, but who, through creative thinking, perseverance and good strategy, were able to take an idea or a skill and turn it into an opportunity for their own economic well being

Tell us something about yourself.

I was born and raised in Morris County, N.J. Starting out with Bell Atlantic Yellow pages, I have spent most of my career in the publishing/advertising industry. I have always maintained a passion for writing. Finally, after 43 years, I decided to write a book.

What inspired you to write this book?

This book was inspired by the 8.4 million Americans who were recently displaced and are desperately seeking a way to re-invent themselves. I have spent the better part of ten years acting as a life/career coach and the stories that were being conveyed to me were riveting. I wanted to share them with as many people as humanly possible.

How did you publish this book?

I decided to self publish my book.

How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?

It all began back in grade school when I acted as the class reporter..< smile>

What do you believe is the hardest part of writing?

Depending on whether you are writing from a stream of consciousness or a narrative, the challenges can be different. From the narrative, I found staying “in tense” to be a challenging. Fortunately, I had a good editor.

How do you do research for your books?

With this book, I had the subject matter at my disposal. BY acting as a life/career coach, it provided me with the opportunity to simply take what was happening and put pen to paper. However, I found it more challenging when I reached out to HARO and recruited two additional individuals whose stories I would tell.

Did you learn anything from writing this book? What?

Yes! I learned that millions of my fellow citizens are in dire straits. And many now view their futures with deep concern, even anxiety

What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors?

I like non-fiction and biographies. I find individuals to be great subject matter.

Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?

I would like to feature five military individuals who served in the middle east and have now come back to civilian life and what steps they have taken to “Make Something Happen”

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

Write about what you love. It wont even seem like labor.

I have six prime time radio interviews coming up. I have also built a web site
