Tell us something about yourself.

I was born and raised in San Clemente, California. Being one of seven children, my mother would often bring us to the beach or mountains to keep us entertained. I discovered at a very young age, I had a passion for everything outdoors. Today, I seize every opportunity to explore, photograph and write about Southern California.

In the course of my travels I have written about Orange County beaches in Sun, Sand & Surf, San Diego beaches in The Beaches Of San Diego, and now Southern California’s Wine Country in Temecula Valley Wine Country.

It’s my hope that the writing and photography in my books brings to readers the delight and even some of the passion for Southern California, which I still enjoy.

What inspired you to write this book?

I was at a restaurant in my hometown of San Clemente, California, when Ray Faulker, the owner of Faulkner Winery in Temecula, came in and began pouring wine for my husband and I to taste. My husband and I had both lived in San Clemente our entire lives and were surprised to discover that Temecula, a mere one-hour’s drive from our home, was a thriving wine region with over 30 wineries. Ray invited us to visit his family’s estate. I fascinated by his descriptions of the town, countryside, wineries and the numbers events they offered. But what intrigued me the most was the quality and variety of the wine made in the valley.

The drive to Temecula along Highway 76 was just as charming as Ray had promised. The pretty two-lane highway took me past fresh fruit stands, grass meadows and through hills covered in orchards.

The moment I arrived, I was immediately delighted by the layout of the town and its storybook perfect setting. The fact that almost all of the wineries are built along one very long road makes it easy to visit and taste the wines at all the different wineries. It surprised me to discover that unlike Napa and Sonoma, Temecula was not well known for its wine region. My desire to share this hidden treasure inspired me to write my book

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

The best advice I have for other writers is simply to start writing. Often we as writers have a passion for a subject, but just don’t know where to begin, or how to begin. Just start writing. Keep a notepad or note book with you and whenever you have a moment (waiting at the dental office etc) jot down notes or thought about your subject, character, words that you love etc

Who is the perfect reader for your book?

The perfect reader for my book is someone that loves wine, or is interested in learning about wine or is looking for an day trip to a beautiful setting. Temecula Valley Wine Country also makes an ideal gift book. Not only is the photography beautiful to look at and the text engaging, but it features certificates for a free wine tasting at any of the wineries in the book and a two-for-one tour on the Grapeline Wine Country Shuttle, so after reading the book you can experience it first hand.

Where can readers learn more about you and your book?

Readers can learn more about my book as well as read about my other publications at gialucy.com.

Having a passion for your subject is great advice for someone interested in writing! The same is true for blog or website writers. If you don’t have passion, you will not succeed and it will not be an enjoyable experience.

My passion is wine. I travel throughout California tasting wine and exploring the numerous wine regions. Temecula is a great wine destination with lots of wonderful wineries and other things to do. I’d definitely recommend a visit to the Temecula Wine Country.
