Gale Laure – Author Interview

What is your most recent book? Tell us a bit about it.

My current novel is Evolution of a Sad Woman. It is a mystery, suspense, thriller, romance.

Five men – strangers – are brought together by their love of the same beautiful woman, Kizzy. When Kizzy is brutally murdered they must join forces to try and solve the crime. They are taken down a road of brutality, crime and danger. Will they all arrive on the other side unscathed?

Be prepared for a surprise ending that will change their lives forever!

Tell us something about yourself.

I am a native Texan born in an area called the Golden Triangle along the Gulf coast. I live in the Houston area of Texas with my husband and my family. I write under a pseudonym to remain as mysterious as the books I write. Evolution of a Sad Woman is my debut novel.

How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?

I tried many professions before becoming an author. I was a business owner of my own consulting company and my own travel agency. I worked as an office manager in a doctor’s office. I worked as a legal assistant and a paralegal. I worked in a CPA office and an insurance office. Nothing ever fulfilled me.

My sister suggested that I always liked to tell stories as a child so perhaps I should pursue that avenue. I had it confirmed by an episode on Oprah. One of her guests said we know what we should be in our childhood. When I told my best friend what I had decided to do, she said “what took you so long”!

I had no idea what to write. After praying on it one night, Evolution of a Sad Woman, popped into my head. The next morning I began to write. I did not stop until I was finished.
The rest is history.

What do you believe is the hardest part of writing?

For me the hardest part of writing is when I edit. I edit myself twice before I send my work to my editor. Then they edit and I perform a rewrite. The edit I do for myself takes all the self-discipline I have inside. I just hate it! First I edit my storyline for errors in my plot or character development. Next, I perform the typo, spelling, grammar and sentence structure edit. These just kill me.

Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?

I am currently editing my next novel, The Bunkhouse. It is a historical, mystery, suspense, thriller, romance novel with a sci-fi twist. The plan is to release it in 2010, hopefully. I am writing my third novel, the sequel to my debut novel. I am researching my fourth novel. I guess you could say that I am a multi-tasker.

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

Sit down, today and get started. Do not let anyone or anything get in your way.
