Free Books for Writers from Amazon Kindle

Amazon.com offers many free Kindle ebooks. (You do not need to own a Kindle to read Kindle ebooks. You can use one of the many free Kindle apps.) Some of the free Kindle ebooks are classics in the public domain, such as novels by Jane Austen, Arthur Conan Doyle and others. However, some publishers also choose to make Kindle editions of recently-released books available free for a limited time. You can find these limited promotional offers in the Kindle store at Amazon.

Right now, Amazon has several books of interest to writers available free in the Kindle store. They will not be free forever, so go download them right away. Here is a list of the free Kindle ebooks for writers that I found today (November 8, 2011):

The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing: Everything You Need to Know to Write, Publish, Promote and Sell Your Own Book

Getting the Words Right

Write That Book Already!: The Tough Love You Need To Get Published Now

How to Be a Writer: Building Your Creative Skills Through Practice and Play

The Complete Handbook Of Novel Writing: Everything You Need to Know About Creating & Selling Your Work (Writers Digest)

Hooked: Write Fiction That Grabs Readers at Page One & Never Lets Them Go

Add these ebooks to your collection now, while they are available at no cost, then use them to become a better, more successful writer. After reading these books, you may want to add others from these authors to your library or purchase the print versions to keep handy for reference. Enjoy!

    Hi Cathy,

Wonderful list! I love reading! I hope this is still free this time! I’m going to check it after I post it. Do you have a newer list of free ebooks? :)

Bernice, most of these books are no longer free. They were limited-time offers. However, Amazon always has free ebooks available for the Kindle. Many of them are public domain books, including a lot of classic literature, but there are also current books available as special promotions. On the Amazon site, go to Kindle Ebooks and click on “free ebook collections.” Then look for the limited-time promotions.
