What Radio Station Are You Listening To? How to Raise Yourself up Above All That Noise

My book is all about you—what you want to accomplish in life…professionally, spiritually, and personally. It addresses how you can better communicate with family, friends, and coworkers and how to set individual goals. It also shows the reader how to realize balance in life and how to deal with the many challenges and obstacles that emerge along the way.

Tell us something about yourself.

I’m originally from Pittsburgh Pa. but currently reside in Centerville, Ohio (a suburb of Dayton). I have spent the last 30 plus years in sales and marketing. On my web site, I devote an entire page about my background, and what led up to the writing of my book.

What inspired you to write this book?

I thought for years, that I should write down in some form many of my own professional and personal life experiences. When I was in my twenties I owned my own business and to a certain degree I got spoiled being the boss. By writing this book, and becoming a motivational speaker, I saw a way in which to not only share my many life experiences with others, but to also achieve another life long goal of mine which was to create my own motivational company (I.T.E. Inspired To Excellence) Plus, many of the topics that are discussed within my book are not really being taught anywhere today, and to a certain degree are disappearing within our great society.

How did you choose the title?

Because of my early background in Radio/TV, I thought it would make a great hook and title.

What obstacles did you encounter in getting this book published? How did you overcome them?

Constantly thinking and being concerned about…..Was there a market for this project…would anyone really want to read my book? When I finally sat down with someone who knew a whole lot more about the publishing business than I did, and told them of my idea and concepts…I was told very emphatically to “write it”. After that, I knew it was just a matter time. I would also like to add, that this person whom I first met with, who encouraged me to definitely write my book, was at that time, an executive officer of a major publishing house, and whose firm was the first of many who not only turned me down because I was a first time author, but passed on the publishing of my manuscript

How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?

I really didn’t know I wanted to be a writer….I started to mess around one day with my hand held tape recorder while traveling from one city to another making sales calls (which was my job at the time). I developed a motivational talk of literally hours on tape. For years, those tapes just sat in my desk drawer until one day; I had a revelation or calling if you will that I should do something with those tapes The rest as they say is now history.

Do you have any writing rituals?

No, not really….Any time you have a thought, write it down…somewhere….write it down.
Any time, day or night…you name an hour of the day, I was writing. If I couldn’t get to my computer, I would write down on anything, words or phrases that would trigger a particular thought that eventually would end up as a chapter/subchapter or even a paragraph within the book.

How do you come up with the names for your characters?

The reader is my main character. (See question ones answer.)

Did you learn anything from writing and publishing this book? What?

Yes… anyone… and I mean anyone no matter what your current circumstances are; you can accomplish what ever you set your mind to accomplish… if and only if you have the proper discipline in your life. (I define that in my book…..)

If you were doing it all over again, what would you do differently?

Nothing….My experiences at times, were frustrating, but over all…
It was a very humbling experience to know that I had created this work from just a simple concept…. to a manuscript…. to now a finished and published book.

What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors?

I like to read other motivational books…Zig Zigler, Dr. Robert Shuler. These two men not only talk the talk, but they both walk the walk in how to live your life, and how to treat others all the while by just using common sense.

Are you working on your next book?

No not currently…my first book just came out 6 months ago, and I’m doing book signings and speaking engagements about this one right now. When I do, or if I do, I would like to collaborate with my wife on a positive living marriage book.

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

Stay with it, and don’t give up. I know that sounds very cliché, but you have to push forward through the many negatives that will come your way. Truthfully, that is what my book is all about, only I talk about how to achieve excellence in ones life. Same principles hold true in writing and publishing a book.

Who is the perfect reader for your book?

Any one who is currently working, or looking for a job. My target market is male or female 25-95 years of age….any one who has a dream or wants to accomplish a goal in their life. I describe in detail how it is possible, and what you will have to do to make your dream a reality.
