Cynthia Soroka – Author Interview

What is your most recent book?

The book series The Dark Chronicles

Tell us a bit about them.

The books take us through the life of Darkmere, a disturbed individual, in a fantasy setting. Swords, castles, medieval garb, good and evil take us through the books. Darkmere has to overcome his friends, family, the environment, and even the gods to finally have the power to control his own destiny. There are six books in the series.

Tell us something about yourself.

I am from New York City. My background is in communications. I graduated from two colleges. I have a AS in Broadcasting from Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ and a BA in Communications from SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY. I also ran for office in New Jersey once. I learned a lot. (Where are you from, what is your background, how long have you been writing or anything we might find interesting about you.)

What inspired you to write this book?

I played a lot of role playing games from the time of grammar school all the way through college. I also read a lot of fantasy books. After a while the books started to become boring and I said to myself “You know I can do that”.

How did you publish this book?

I created my own publishing company and then published my books and others as well.

How did you know you wanted to be a writer? How did you get started?

I just sat in front of a notebook and started to write. After writing in long hand in a notebook I stopped and threw it out. I thought “this is junk”. Then something inside of me told me to go back to writing six months later. I did and just kept on going.

What do you believe is the hardest part of writing?

Sitting down to write.

How do you do research for your books?

When I was in college I started my own role playing game, put some people through it and used what happened as the basis for the first three books.

Did you learn anything from writing this book? What?

That if you have a goal and you don’t give up you will get there.

What are you reading now?

Books on Screen writing

What types of books do you like to read?

I used to read a lot, after writing I have really lost the passion for reading books and now read magazines and books on what I want to accomplish next.

Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?

I am working on finishing a screenplay based on the first book.

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

Never never give up on your work. If you can’t find an outlet for the book, then create one.

What are you doing to promote your latest book?

My website is the best tool to promote the books.

Where can readers learn more about you and your book?
