Christy Baldwin – Care for Creation

What is your most recent book? Tell us a bit about it.

Care for Creation is a children’s picture book that talks about ways for kids and families to participate in “green” activities. There are lots of things kids can do to help save money and resources that aren’t often shared with them. This book is very down to Earth with quality examples, lovely artwork and biblical scriptures for each topic.

Tell us something about yourself.

I am from Indiana, but currently live in Westerville, Ohio near Columbus. I have 2 degrees in Education but am currently a stay-at-home mom homeschooling my own children. I wrote my first book as a project for my Master’s degree and have since published 3 children’s book and 1 teacher’s resource book. I love to read, listen to music and run.

What inspired you to write this book?

This book was written to meet the needs of this generation. There are so many ideas for how adults can reduce, reuse, and recycle but not many materials geared towards kids in this topic. Our family enjoys getting involved in saving money and resources and I thought it would be great to share with others.

How did you choose the title?

I chose “Care for Creation” because I feel it is important for adults and kids to recognize that the Earth was created for our enjoyment and God has called us to take care of it. This can be done by reusing, reducing, and recycling.

What types of books do you like to read? Who are your favorite authors? Why?

I love to read Christian Fiction. My favorite author is Karen Kingsbury. Her books are very realistic with issues and characters that many people have to deal with. Her stories and solutions always cause me to consider myself and my relationship with God.

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

I say “keep trying” – writing should be fun, but getting your books published isn’t always easy. Keep submitting it and eventually, someone will pick it up. Keep trying.

Who is the perfect reader for your book?

Young children and their parents should check out this book. Older kids will enjoy the topics and activities, but the reading level is pretty low.
