Cheryl Anne Meyer and Tara Landon – Author Interview

What is your most recent book? Tell us a bit about it.

Our book is called The Red Flag Rulebook and it contains 50 Red Flags to watch out for when you are dating a guy as well as 10 Deal Breakers that will stop a relationship in its tracks. Each Red Flag is accompanied by a real life testimonial which is honest, insightful and sometimes hilarious.

Tell us something about yourself.

Cheryl Anne Meyer is a 26 year-old who resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has a Bachelor of Commerce and works as a copyright. Cheryl grew up in a small Northern city, Timmins, Ontario until she moved to Toronto, Ontario in 2004. Since her move, until 2009, she was working as an actress

Tara Landon is a 25 year-old who also resides in Toronto, Ontario Canada. She has a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Sociology. After she finished her degree in 2006 she moved from her hometown of Wallaceburg to Toronto to model and work. She is currently working for an award winning company as an Advertising Executive.

What inspired you to write this book?

The book was inspired by many bad dating experiences by both Authors. Tara had just ended a relationship and Cheryl was newly single after a very rocky relationship. Both of us didn’t want to make the same mistakes again so we wrote down all of the unsavory personality traits that our past dates had displayed.

We called it The Red Flag List and we only allowed men to reach 6 flags before we lost their numbers. But after careful consideration we felt we were too easy on our potential mates and changed the rules. We made three rules on how to use the Red Flags for ourselves and with contributions from other frustrated single women; we extended our list to 50 Red Flags in total with 10 absolute Deal Breakers.

This list has been adapted into The Red Flag Rulebook.

What do you believe is the hardest part of writing?

The hardest part of writing is meeting the deadline. We wanted to perfect it as best as we could but the deadline loomed before us.

Also the piece had some autobiographical material in it which was, at times, difficult because we needed to be completely forthcoming with our own stories. These stories turned our lives into an open book, literally and figuratively.

What are you reading now?

Currently we are reading The Secret, New Moon, Trauma Farm and The Stone Gods.

What types of books do you like to read?

Tara enjoys classical novels and occasionally indulges in a good romance. Cheryl Anne really enjoys biographies and epic novels. She also reads many “How-to” books.

Are you working on your next book? What can you tell us about it?

Yes we are currently writing our next book called The Break-up Rulebook. This piece is entirely about what to do during and how to deal with a break-up. We will be discussing the best way to end a relationship (short and long-term) and how to get over him without the messiness. This book will also feature real life testimonials and we will both have a few of our own stories in our sequel too.

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

Be sure that you have the same vision as those you work with and realize that your piece will be a collaborative work (editors, publishers, designers etc). Be ready for some compromises and understand that is what happens when art and business collide.

What are you doing to promote your latest book?

We have been making some TV appearances (KTLA and Cosmo TV) as well as a couple radio interviews. Recently we have had many interviews with writers from magazines, blogs and websites.

Where can readers learn more about you and your book?
